The Teachers Service Commission (TSC Kenya) has responded to concerns regarding the recent TSC recruitment and teacher replacement exercise in Tharaka Nithi County, particularly in Chiakariga Subcounty. In a letter dated March 3, 2025, TSC acknowledged receiving a formal complaint about the allocation of vacancies in the ongoing recruitment process.
Why Chiakariga Was Left Out
The allocation of teacher replacement vacancies by TSC Kenya is primarily based on data recorded in the TSC entry and exit portal. This ensures that areas experiencing teacher shortages due to retirements, resignations, or other exits receive necessary replacements.
However, despite reports of teacher exits in Chiakariga Subcounty, no vacancies were allocated to the region in the recent TSC advert for replacement positions. This raised concerns among local leaders and education stakeholders, prompting Hon. George Gitonga Murugara, MP for Tharaka Nithi Constituency, to write to TSC Kenya seeking clarification.
In response, TSC news confirmed that the issue arose due to the administrative classification of teacher exits. Since Chiakariga is a newly created sub-county, some teacher exits may have been recorded under its former administrative unit, affecting the distribution of vacancies in the TSC application portal.
To correct this, TSC Kenya has initiated a review of exit data and forwarded a list of 117 teachers who left service across Tharaka Nithi County to the County Director. The mapping exercise is expected to determine whether Chiakariga should receive additional allocations through the TSC recruitment process.
This highlights challenges arising from administrative changes that are not immediately reflected in TSC online service records. As TSC latest news continues to develop, affected schools in Chiakariga remain in urgent need of teacher replacements.
Adjustments Underway
TSC further noted that teacher vacancies arising from exits in newly created sub-counties like Chiakariga may have been mistakenly recorded under their former administrative sub-counties. This is currently being reviewed, and TSC good news today is that adjustments will be made once the mapping exercise is complete.
The TSC online service portal is expected to be updated accordingly, ensuring that specific schools affected by teacher exits receive the necessary replacements. Once this process is finalized, vacancies will be reallocated fairly, ensuring equitable teacher distribution across Tharaka Nithi County.
What This Means for Teachers in Chiakariga
Teachers in Chiakariga and across Kenya should keep an eye on TSC online payslip and the TSC portal login for updates regarding vacancies and deployment. Those affected by teacher exits can also check the TSC registration portal and TSC TPAD for any changes that may affect their schools.
For teachers awaiting transfers, TSC transfer online services will play a crucial role in future deployment decisions. The TSC job application process will likely be reopened for areas needing additional replacements, ensuring that all sub-counties, including Chiakariga, receive their rightful share of teachers.
As more details emerge, we encourage teachers to stay updated via the official tsc.go.ke website and the TSC payslip portal for official announcements.
